One of our first posts, from March 2025: the beginning of Lizz & Andi, when starting a blog still sounded like a reasonably straightforward idea.
We have decided to start a blog. There. I have written it down, which presumably means we now have to do something about it.
The idea is simple enough: share our adventures, both the ones we have already had and the ones still waiting for us. I have plenty of memories. Lizz and I have plenty of plans. Between those two things, there ought to be enough to write about.
The technical side may have opinions of its own.
Giving the memories somewhere to live
Writing about old journeys has already reminded me how much pleasure there is in going back through them. A photograph brings up a place, the place brings up a person, and suddenly I am remembering something I had not thought about for years.
Somewhere along the way, what was supposed to be a quick look through a few pictures becomes an entire afternoon. A very enjoyable afternoon, admittedly. Just not the one I had planned.
That is what we want to share here: the journeys, the small details and the things that happened between the photographs. Sometimes beautiful. Sometimes surprising. Occasionally a fine demonstration of why I should have asked one more question before agreeing to something.
And perhaps a little video, too
We also want to share videos of our travels. Some things are easier to show than explain, and hearing a place can bring back a memory that a photograph leaves quiet.
Of course, deciding to make videos and becoming good at making videos are two separate stages. We are rather confidently entering the first one. The second may involve a little patience.
Something better than another evening of scrolling
Part of the attraction is simply having something creative to do. It is very easy to spend an evening looking at what everyone else has made and go to bed wondering where the evening went.
We would like to spend a little more of that time making something of our own. A story, a video, a small record of a journey. It does not have to be perfect to be worth keeping.
And if somebody reads it, recognises a feeling or remembers a similar adventure, all the better. That is rather more satisfying than keeping the whole thing in a folder that nobody opens.
Come along while we work it out
So this is the beginning. We will be sharing old memories, new adventures and probably a few discoveries about running a website that I would have preferred to learn the easy way.
If you are thinking about recording your own stories, perhaps start with one. You do not need to have the entire project worked out. We certainly haven’t.
A later chapter: see how the idea grew in We Started a Travel Blog. Somehow, It Became a Collection of Our Lives. Or find your next story in the Journal.
