Let’s be real for a second: writing a blog can be frustrating. There’s this romantic idea that you’ll pour your heart, soul, and many, many hours into a post—crafting sentences, tweaking metaphors, reliving stories you can’t wait to share—and then, miraculously, a crowd of readers will appear to devour every word. Maybe they’ll leave thoughtful comments. Maybe your friends and family will share it around. Maybe you’ll get that little thrill of connection, knowing your words made someone smile, think, or even just pause.
Yeah. About that.
Here’s the honest truth: sometimes, it feels like no one is reading. Not your family, not your friends, not even that random Facebook acquaintance who likes everything. The world’s busy scrolling. The only things that seem to get noticed? Quick visuals, cute reels, or a flashy TikTok that vanishes from memory as fast as it appeared. Suddenly, the writing you poured your “Herzblut” into (I love that German word for heart-blood) is just another drop in an endless digital ocean.
And it stings. Because I love to write. I can’t reduce my stories to a ten-second video or a meme. My words need space to breathe, to wander, to meander, to mean something. But sometimes, doubts creep in—shouting, “Is it even worth it? Should you just move on?”
I’m not going to pretend I have a magic solution. I don’t. Self-doubt is part of the game. Writing is a bit like sending paper boats downstream and hoping someone, somewhere, finds one and smiles. But here’s what I try to remember: I write because I have to, not just because I want attention. The process itself is worth something. The act of crafting thoughts, exploring memories, giving shape to feelings—there’s value in that, even if the applause is silent, or non-existent.
So, will I quit? I doubt it. Maybe my audience is tiny. Maybe my words are just for me, or for that one stranger who stumbles across a post at 2am and finds comfort. Maybe that’s enough. And hey, if you’re reading this, you’re part of my tiny, stubborn audience—and I’m grateful.
If you love to write, don’t let the scroll-happy world get you down. Your words matter, even if they don’t go viral. Keep sending those paper boats. You never know where they’ll land.
