“The journey not the arrival matters.”
― T.S. Eliot
Thoughts About the Quote
I really like this quote because it feels true in such a simple way. We often think everything is about finally getting somewhere — reaching a destination, achieving a goal, or arriving at the place we have dreamed about for a long time. But many times, the best parts are not only waiting at the end. They happen along the way.
Especially when it comes to travel, this quote makes a lot of sense. Of course, we want to arrive. We want to see the place, take the photo, enjoy the view, or finally stand somewhere we have only imagined before. But when we look back later, it is often the little things on the way that stay with us.
The early morning start. The long ride. The funny delays. The wrong turns. The food we tried somewhere unexpected. The people we met for only a short moment. Even the small problems that were annoying at the time can become part of the story later.
That is what makes a journey special. It is not always perfect, and maybe it is not supposed to be. Sometimes the unplanned moments are the ones we remember most.
And maybe life is the same. We spend so much time waiting for the next big thing — a better place, a better time, a new chapter, a dream finally coming true. But in between all that waiting, life is already happening. The normal days, the little steps, the small joys, and even the difficult moments are all part of it.
So this quote is a nice reminder for me: don’t rush too much. Don’t only look at the finish line. Enjoy the road, the people, the surprises, and even the detours.
Because in the end, the arrival is just one moment. The journey is the story.
